Multan Sultans vs Islamabad United H2h
The United team will love to bag another victory because they have a 100% success rate against the Sultans in the two battles they have fought with them. Multan Sultans, on the other hand, would want to discard the mistakes they did earlier and play better cricket than the opposition to exhibit some points on the table.
It would be a fresh pitch in Dubai Stadium so we won’t be seeing the grip that it contained during the second match of the last night between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators. Islamabad United looks in a well-settled shape although they can make a change or two to make way for Ian Bell or Wayne Parnell but the chances of doing so look lean. The star bowler, Shadab Khan needs to regain his old PSL form for his team because he experienced his most expensive spell of the PSL history in the last game. When you have a leg spinner in the team who has the ability to flight the ball and do wrong ones, you want him to take more than one wicket. The emerging Waqas Mehmood was very accurate in the last game and he would like to continue from where he left while Faheem Ashraf would get another chance to showcase the application of his decent international exposure by bowling with variations as he did in the last game. Samit Patel dropped two catches in the last game which he shouldn’t repeat.
The batsman must fire
Luke Ronchi who had been a consistent performer for the United team, lost his wicket to a not-so-special delivery from Rahat Ali in the first game that led to a collapse. He must fire with full might. Phil Salt will receive another chance to prove his worth. He looked positive when he hit one four but got a rising delivery that led to his downfall. Hussain Talat should look to increase his strike rate a bit because the more dot balls he consumes, the greater the pressure builds up on the batsman on the other end. Asif Ali and Faheem Ashraf would be required to do no different because there was both sense and attack in their last innings.
They almost got to the line in their first match but could do little about the yorker’s that were aimed at them in the last two overs. They require their opening pair to flourish because both of them got out cheaply previously. Shoaib Malik was the star of the last game when he battered Ravi Bopara and collected 24 runs in one over and he should retain that form throughout the event if Multan Sultans have to land anywhere near the winning stand. The big man, Andre Russel was good with the bowl but could not deliver when his team needed him in the batting. Afridi could have been a hero but after a short cameo, got out to a good slower ball of Muhammad Amir. He could do well against the spinners of United because Boom Boom loves to dance down the track.
The bowling must leak fewer runs
Against the Karachi Kings, they gave away 183 runs. Muhammad Ilyas and Junaid Khan were both expensive with economy rates of above 10 but that also included some fours through edges. The flat tracks like that of Dubai require bowlers to depict variations otherwise it won’t be long before they get thrashed all around the park if continued with a seam up deliveries. Malik used Afridi smartly in the last match and he will be his weapon once again. Babar Azam and Livingstone were intelligent to play straight to Afridi but in the likes of Talat and Delport who like to cut the bowl, he can prove quite handy.
